Metasurfaces are ultrathin, flat layers of subwavelength “meta‑atoms” that control light by locally changing its phase, amplitude, or polarization.
They act like 2D versions of metamaterials, providing abrupt, spatially tailored wavefront shaping instead of gradual phase accumulation in bulky lenses.
This enables compact, integrable flat‑optics devices for imaging, sensing, LiDAR, and communications.
